"Is your life a yesterday warmed over?" A fresh approach to doing life.

Recently I spoke at a “Women of A New Day” event, an introduced this question,
“Is your life a “Yesterday” warmed over? “
Without us even realizing it, our life is the same old song and dance routines.
If autopilot were optional, life could do it with out most of us.
Should we be alarmed that all we are doing is a ” warmed up yesterday” and calling it a new day? James 4:14 says “For what is your life?  For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”  Our life is a precious gift, wrapped with great purpose from God.
We have just turned the calendar to a new year when many are taking a quick glance at our lives, desiring and wishing for something new and different than last year.
Recycling is great for some things, but recycling life is not the abundant living that Christ has offered us.

Isn’t it interesting how we try repackaging our yesterdays by putting them in new wrappings?  Certainly changing the outward appearance like a new job, new friends, locations can help, but the promise of a new day starts much deeper.

Isaiah 43:18 says, “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old.  Behold, I will do a New Thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it?”

Reaching back into what was, is reliving yesterday.  Everything is filtered through past failures, tragedies, pain and difficulty or even our successes.  We reach back because we have no vision or dream, no hope past where we’ve already been.  The Apostle Paul said, “Let go of what lies behind and reach forward to those things that Christ laid hold of for us.”  Greater days are ahead no matter where or what has been in our past.  There is the promise of a new day.  Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning.

Psalms 118:24 “This is the Day the Lord has made I will rejoice and be glad in it.”
We must not spend a lifetime waiting for a “New Day”.   Every year we make those resolutions looking for life to be different. There are 365 days in a calendar year.  How do we implement changes for a year when doing “ a day” is nothing short of a warmed over yesterday?  Life was never meant to become one warmed over event for any of us.

Jesus came to bring a New and Living Way.  He offers us a fresh approach to life. God never put stale bread before His children even in a wilderness place.

Let me just say, we all are still working this question out in our hearts.  You’re invited to journey with others and me as we ask the Lord to teach us to “do life" as a New Day.

My prayer as we journal together this year is too allow the Holy Spirit to reveal those places where life has become a stale repeat and where maybe fear or hopelessness keeps us from reaching for a new day. Until one day the journey changes courses and the path of the righteous gets brighter and brighter.  Until one day we fully embrace His Mercy that is New every morning and leave the condemnation behind. Until we learn how to walk like New Creations in Christ, where the old things have past away and behold….all things become NEW.

Let our journey begin today!
Sandy
